Communication graphics — in layman’s terms, graphic design — is the expression of thoughts and ideas using colors, pictures, symbols, typography, and more. It is where verbal and visual expression meet to convey universal ideas and messages.
The core argument is simple: visual appeal matters less than whether the design actually communicates its intended purpose. If you design a business card and everyone thinks it looks great, but they have no idea what the business actually does — you have failed.
Humans have limited attention spans and expect immediate comprehension. Design must balance two critical elements: visual appeal and clear communication of the message. A design that is beautiful but confusing is a design that did not do its job.
The practical takeaway, for both designers and clients: make sure that in addition to being aesthetically pleasing, you put the communication back into communication graphics.
